Some results from the SQ Canoe OC1 / 2 race series; A good outing
for the Zulu's at the Spit in race one. Congratulations to the
following paddlers:
Robyn Saultry 1st in the open women's race on the Zulu Warrior
OC1 with a time of 1'49.
Shaun Spencer 2nd overall in the long course on the new Zulu
racing ski with a time of 1'22'59.
Mark Kennedy 5th in the open men's ski on the new model.
And up at Tannum Sands for round one of the NQAOCRA Waipuhi
race series, some more strong finishes for team Zulu.
Ian Bean 6th overall in the master men's on a Warrior.
Scott Gardiner 1st in the master men's ski division on his
new Zulu racing ski.
Kathy Barsby 2nd in the open women's event.
Michelle Lynes 2nd in the master women's.
On Saturday the 27th August the Sth Queensland zone outriggers
held the first round of the OC1, Surf ski and paddle board races.
Since I had started my first week back at training (since my last
attempt at getting back into training) I decided to enter the race
after four big sessions under my belt. The race ran from Burleigh
Heads to inside the Southport seaway at the northcliffe OCC 20km
in total. The wind had been blowing well for a couple of days so
with the wind at our backs and great swell all the way it made for
some great fun. The new Zulu ski ran beautiful picking up runners
with ease; it had great maneuverability and is very sleek through
the water. I just need to do some training to get it moving a
little faster. One person who did have the ski moving very fast
was Shaun Spencer (2005 Aussie finalist). Shaun had a great day
taking out the silver with himself only being back into training
for a short period after a layoff from the Aussies.
I was very sore on Sunday but recovered well by Monday to back
up for another paddle from Greenmount beach to Nth Burleigh.
I’ll try and keep the training up now that I’ve stared (again,
children permitting) and see how I go in two weeks on the
sunshine coast.
